The Second Fall

Pain and Exhaustion
An arm shattered
Concetta tries to reach the bathroom alone and falls again, badly breaking her arm. Lucy hears her cries and must manage the emergency while exhausted from caregiving.
Hospice becomes necessary
Lucy recognizes that love cannot provide the care Concetta now needs. She arranges a transfer to the hospice near Frazier, a decision made with grief rather than abandonment.

The Grandmother Remembered

Loss Within Victory
Abra names her grief
Abra cries out for Concetta when the mist appears. The battle makes clear that victory does not restore the person whose gift made it possible.
A continuing inheritance
Concetta’s care survives in Abra’s character and in Dan’s newly discovered kinship with Lucy. Her death becomes a passage into family history rather than a disappearance without meaning.
